After nearly a year of innovation, hard work, and community building, we are thrilled to announce Nautilus Chain has launched on mainnet! Nautilus is an L3 chain featuring a modular architecture that allows developers to tailor the execution, settlement, and data availability layers according to their needs

One Giant Leap for Web3

Payments are a natural case for crypto, and yet few real-world businesses use it despite being borderless, decentralized, and often more efficient. The main reason for the lack of adoption has been the lack of scalability, speed, and compliance tools.

Nautilus changes all of this. We are taking blockchain to the next level, a level that is finally capable of merging Web2 and Web3.

Developed to facilitate Zebec’s instant payment streaming at scale, Nautilus opens the door to all new use cases and applications. It goes a step further than instant payments from systems like FedNow. With its real-time payment infrastructure, Nautilus can not only provide new global payment infrastructure, but it can provide payment services that have never existed before.

“Zebec is helping to create a future where money is able to move more freely, giving individuals, businesses, investors, and teams faster and easier access to funds and tokens,” said Sam Thapaliya, Founder of Zebec. “The launch of Nautilus on mainnet is another breakthrough on the path towards this vision.”

Why Modular?

With Nautilus Chain, Zebec pioneers modular blockchain architecture to support real-time payments (or “payment streaming”) dApp. Zebec allowed businesses to pay employees and partners in real-time in a tax-compliant way.

Originally built on traditional monolithic chains, their limitations quickly became apparent. Networks were either too slow or too unreliable to keep up with demand. To solve the issue, Zebec Labs created Nautilus.

Nautilus’ modular architecture offers developers many benefits besides scalability. A huge upside is the flexibility it gives developers to configure the “chain stack” for their dApps. Because it uses interchangeable modules for consensus, data availability, settlement, and execution, each layer can be configured to developer needs. For example, at the execution layer, customized rollups can be deployed that optimize for privacy or scalability, or decentralization — whatever is required by the dApp.

Modular chains allow for infinite horizontal scaling and greater levels of interoperability. Since developers build from the same pool of modules, code is safer, more battle-tested, and easier to connect. More rollups and parallel chains can be deployed to increase block space and throughput effectively.

How Nautilus Chain Works

At launch, Nautilus’ settlement layer is built using Solana’s VM, MOVE, and its execution layer on Neon EVM using Solidity smart contracts. Data availability is stored off-chain using Celestia. Nautilus’ initial default execution layer will use optimistic rollups, but the team plans to transition to zkRollups for faster settlements, privacy, and even higher levels of scalability.

Nautilus is built with Celestia and Eclipse, two projects that empower projects to build modular chains. Through Celesita, Nautilus allows projects to tailor their consensus and settlement layers. Eclipse allows builders on Nautilus to deploy customized rollups on their execution layer.

The result is a chain as secure as Ethereum but which is vastly more scalable. According to its engineers, Nautilus has been tested up to 3,000 TPS, but the team expects the number to increase with the transition to zkRollups. By having such a high TPS, Nautilus Chain provides a platform that can keep up with the demands of the real world, opening the door to decentralized markets for financial instruments and assets, such as stocks, bonds, real estate, and tokenized real-world assets.

New Use Cases Enabled by Nautilus

Payment streaming, first pioneered by Zebec and enabled at scale by Nautilus, is a novel kind of payment solution not previously possible.

Payment streaming, or real-time continuous settlement transactions, allows businesses and individuals alike to better leverage the time-value of money. Instead of waiting till the end of the pay period or even weeks after it to receive a paycheck, employees can get paid as they work. This is a great incentive that can help employers retain key team members in competitive labor markets.

Payment streaming has also been suggested as a way to eliminate predatory payday loans. A worker no longer needs to sign a highly disadvantageous contract when short on cash; they can get their money right away. It also opens the door to pay-as-you-go payment plans for streaming services, Ubers, gyms, residential club memberships, and more.

Whole new business models are now possible, thanks to Nautilus.

Built for Real-world adoption

Nautilus Chain can do more than just payments. The goal isn’t merely to provide more efficient payment services but rather to onboard millions of new users to Web3.

“Zebec’s progress with Nautilus Chain’s development has a potential to bridge the gap between traditional finance and web2 payroll applications and the emerging web3 ecosystem,” said Steve Chen, Head of Blockchain Development for Nautilus. The goal is to create a platform that can act as global payment infrastructure on decentralized rails.

With over 70 projects deploying on Nautilus, including Coral Finance, Witnet, PoseiSwap, Coinflow Labs, DBOE, and over 40 million transactions on its testnet, Nautilus is launching with a basic ecosystem already in place.

Nautilus isn’t just recreating existing utility on decentralized rails. It’s creating a whole new financial paradigm. As Zebec continues to innovate and expand its ecosystem, it invites developers, companies, and projects from around the world to join it in creating a more connected, efficient, and accessible financial future on Nautilus Chain.

About Nautilus

Nautilus Chain is the first production-ready modular chain in Web3. Through its modular architecture, Nautilus combines the speed of Solana with the decentralization and security of Ethereum to become the fastest EVM chain available, capable of parallel transaction processing.

Developers can use Nautilus to build next-generation payment dApps capable of real-time settlement. Nautilus provides Solidity developers with the efficiency and customization to build dApps that wouldn’t be possible on other EVM foundations.

With Nautilus, Web3 technology will have the reliability and scalability needed to replace traditional payment rails worldwide.

About Zebec Protocol

Zebec is a tax-compliant payment protocol with over 60 business clients and more than $300 million in TVL. It is a continuous settlement protocol founded by Sam Thapaliya that makes payments more efficient, fair, and decentralized.

Businesses, ecosystem partners, and institutions use Zebec Protocol to stream real-time, per-second payments to payees. By more efficiently leveraging the time value of money, Zebec makes money worth more.
